Onyekachi Eriobu-Aniede

Onyekachi is a seasoned lawyer specialising in intellectual property and entertainment law. She believes innovation and human resources are essential for Nigeria's better rating on the global innovation indices. Hence, she contributes to promoting IP by creating awareness online and offline. Onyekachi began her journey in awareness creation in 2010–2011 when she disseminated information on the rights of the Nigerian citizenry through her TV programme 'You & the Law' that aired on OSBC, reaching Osun State and her environs. Since then, she has continued to use her presentation skills to create awareness of IP to students, business communities, and the general public. Onyekachi has trained under notable institutions, including WIPO, Harvard, JPO, Chongqing Institute of Technology, and LawSikho. She holds a master's degree from the WIPO-ARIPO joint master initiative with Africa University. These academic exercises have enriched her with knowledge of IP and entertainment law from the academia, agent, and legal practitioner's points of view. In the course of her studies, Onyekachi has earned skills as an IP paralegal and consultant, script clearance specialist, expert contract reviewer and drafter, IP policy and strategy developer, tenancy and company matters, legal opinion, takedown notices, and opposition matters, and as an IP portfolio manager. She was privileged to Co-lead the contract review team of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation through an internship posting of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. Onyekachi is a special civil servant, leader and staff of the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) of Nigeria. She creates IP awareness for top government officials who now appreciate the roles of each IP institution in the country for policy development while remaining hopeful for an IP-engineered Civil Service. Onyekachi is enriched with IP matters from an administrator's point of view and privileged to exchange knowledge with experts from other IPOs worldwide. This experience helps her balance IP discussions online and offline. Onyekachi is passionate about IP and the economic progress of Nigeria. Hence, she is open to IP mentorship and awareness creation and looks forward to further collaborations, including on international scenes.
